Why We’re Here
At Our Core:
While Slow & Steady Thrift is here to assist everyone from all different backgrounds, our core is centered around God’s providence. Matthew 6:28-30 of the ESV translation Bible says:
“‘And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil or spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, will he not much more clothe you?'“
There is an abundance of clothing on our planet. While there are many charitable organizations out there bringing clothing to those in need, we have noticed that this clothing is often the rejects - items that are being given away because they are no longer desirable to those who can easily afford to purchase clothing at their desired outlets. They’re ripped, stained, tattered, out of fashion, and/or poorly made. We believe that just because someone is in a position of need doesn’t mean they should be subject to receiving the rejected items from the rest of society. We believe that everyone should have access to beautiful clothing that speaks to their personal fashion sense/style.
Consider how much better you feel going about your day when you’re wearing an outfit you love and feel confident in. Doesn’t everyone deserve to feel this way?
At Slow & Steady Thrift, we make it our mission to make quality clothing available to people of ALL budgets - even if that budget is $0.
And all of those reject items?
All of those items that are stained, ripped and tattered are still being put to use! If they’re able to be mended , they are mended. If they are not, they are recycled and repurposed into other items. (Make sure you take a look at our zero- waste craft events!) At Slow & Steady Thrift, we believe that it is important to be good stewards of the resources we are given. Sending items to the landfill without a second thought is not our way! Instead, we try to create beauty out of them.
